Absolutely love this place, second favorite national park that I've been to. I would definitely recommend the winter months because the snow drastically changes the look and feel of the landscape. Plus there are way less people there and who doesn't love that!
The Badlands formations are the most mind-blowing things I have ever seen. I went in February on a sunny day and it was unbelievably beautiful. The scenic drive is perfect, you can get off I-90 at one exit and get back on at a separate exit without too much driving. The visitor center is very informative as to how these formations developed. If you're lucky, you'll see deer, sheep, and maybe even bison! Definitely one of the coolest places I have ever been and I'll remember it forever.
A must see! We were nearby at Mt Rushmore and drove through Badlands National Park on our way east. I am so glad we did! I enjoyed it way more than other stops in South Dakota
The Badlands are magical. Pictures do not do them justice. You have to go there, get off the road, and walk into wonder. Sunrise, midday, sunset, or after dark...magic. No time is a bad time to see them.
My expectations were pretty low, but man was this place beautiful! So much fun hiking through the rock formations and enjoying the beautiful views and landscape. Trust me, you want to drive through this place and climb the rocks to get pictures of the surroundings.
